CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY FULLERTON TITAN GATEWAY PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE
STATUS: 90% CD
CLIENT: California State University Fullerton
The project will build a new pedestrian bridge spanning a key California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) campus crossing at Nutwood Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue, connecting the main campus to auxiliary sites south of campus in order to protect pedestrians and encourage walking and biking.

The design will provide space for seating and shade trees and is intended to hug the ramps and retaining walls to help soften the structure. The planting design highlights site circulation and will create a unique experience of walking within a tree canopy. Informal tree plantings line the ramps and shade the walkways. Low shrubs and groundcovers on the ground plane will keep the site open and visible to encourage safety and security.

The planting palette incorporates plants from the CSUF Campus Landscape Master Plan and includes a variety of color, texture, and seasonal interest and emphasizes California native or climate adapted, low water use, drought-tolerant, low maintenance plants. Foxtail Agave adds sculptural interest while Coral Aloe and Showy Penstemon punctuate massings of Mat Rush with both height and color.
