LA METRO
COMMAND AND CONTROL CENTER (MC3)

LOCATION: Los Angeles, CA
STATUS: Schematic Design
CLIENT: Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority

The LA Metro Command and Control Center (MC3) project will provide a new combined operations center designed to centralize and streamline Metro’s rail and bus operations, enhancing coordination, emergency response, and system scalability for future transit expansion.

The landscape design includes planting, irrigation, site furniture, bioswale, hardscape, and fencing. The planting design aims to create a visually appealing and enjoyable environment for building users, both from within the building and along the path from the parking lot to the building entrance. The planting design has two distinct zones: a northern zone featuring broadleaf trees and groundcovers that offer seasonal color and textural variety, and a sun-exposed southern zone planted with plants that evoke an open, dry landscape character. This contrast introduces dynamic variations in form, color, and texture across the site.

The bioretention basin in the parking lot is designed to provide effective stormwater management for the large paved area while also adding visual interest along the main pedestrian circulation in the parking lot. The landscape paving is designed to provide safe and clear pedestrian paths while reflecting the architectural character of the building. The landscape scope also includes security fencing around the site, designed to establish a secure perimeter that controls access while integrating with the overall site design and minimizing visual intrusion.
