Shaping the Waterfront: Landscape Architecture and the Transformation of the Port of Los Angeles
Updated: Oct 27, 2026

Our principal, Yunsoo Kim, spoke at the California Garden & Landscape History Society’s annual conference, Harbor Heritage: Landscapes & Landmarks Through Time.
In his presentation, “Shaping the Waterfront—Landscape Architecture and the Transformation of the Port of Los Angeles,” Yunsoo discussed the progression of waterfront development at the Port. He drew on his experience with Cabrillo Way Marina Phase II, LA Waterfront Downtown Harbor, Avalon Promenade and Gateway, and the Outer Harbor Cruise Terminal.
The conference brought together a community dedicated to documenting and celebrating the stories of landscapes and the people behind them. We were grateful to be part of the conversation and to share our perspective on the evolving Los Angeles waterfront.
Thank you to Danny Hughes, LAWA Deputy Executive Director, for the invitation, and to the California Garden & Landscape History Society for bringing this community together.
